First tell us a little about your self…
My name is Gary Kidd, live in the Fort Worth area. I am the
Operations Director for Mike Kidd Entertainment Group producers of the
BooKoo Arenacross Championship Series.
How did you get involved in Motocross?
1984 when we began promoting indoor
Arenacross events.
Were the first track you worked at?
I am pretty much from a promoter family, my
Father promoted Ross Downs “Motorcycle Dirt Track” which was located in
Colleyville, TX during the 1960’s and 1970’s. Later helped maintain and
run Boyd Raceway for Mike 1983-1990, once Boyd Raceway sold I leased the
track from the new owner and promoted races for a couple more years. I
also helped organize and promote the Arenacross Series 1984 till
current.
Did you ever race?
Yes, I started racing Quarter Midgets at
age 5, after a couple years raced M/C Dirt Track at Ross Downs during
the 60’s and 70’s, then Quad’s and M/C’s at Boyd Raceway 1983-1990. Won
four AMA Amateur Titles, I hit several AATVA Nationals throughout the
country winning two PRO AATVA Quad Grand Nationals. I also raced the
Pro Quad class in Arenacross during the 1980’s when we ran ATV’s as
well.
Now since the BooKoo Arenacross is over what are
you doing now?
Believe it or not it’s
never ending, as soon as the season ends in February we begin planning
for next season, recaps, putting together a new schedule, securing venue
locations, summer promotions and so on.
What’s going to be new to the BooKoo Arenacross
this year?
Bigger and Better, just
have to wait and see!
What’s the biggest race you have been too?
Biggest, not sure, but I
would say the most exciting would be the two times we promoted
Arenacross in Geneva, Switzerland.
Are there any other forms of racing you would like
to try and why?
Not really.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Enjoy spending time with
my family and friends, golf, movies, pretty much a homebody being I
travel so much.
Do you play any Motocross games?
Yes have all the MX PS2
games.
If there’s one thing in Motocross you would like
to change what would it be and why?
I dislike angry
parents when a child does not finish well. Encouragement and praise
will get your child in the victory circle far quicker than being angry
and discouraged.
Is there any advice you would like to give out to
any racers or promoters?
Practice, practice and
even more practice, live a good healthy life, finish school and set
goals that you can achieve. As far as promoters, put yourself in
riders boots every once in awhile.
In closing is there anyone you would like to
Thank?
I would like to
thank first of all Mike Kidd, for if it weren’t for his passion for
racing and love for Arenacross it would not be where it is today. I
would also like to thank all the families and riders that attended the
series last year, by far the best talent and racing ever. To all the
Sponsors and Contingency sponsors, over $3.5 million for one season. Also
look for BooKoo Arenacross Championship Series as we will be doing
summer promotions at selected motocross events nationwide this summer,
